CFC Selected as Grant Recipient by The Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust

Award to support fresh food storage and distribution at CFC’s Food and Farm Hub

Comfort Food Community is pleased to announce that our organization was recently selected as a grant recipient by The Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust. This generous award, totaling $16,000, will be used to fund the purchase of a 10’ x 12’ x 77” walk-in freezer at CFC’s Food and Farm Hub located at 101 Fiddlers Elbow Road in Greenwich, NY. This immediate upgrade will allow for climate-controlled storage to maximize use and extend shelf-life of fresh products, as well as expand space to accommodate the increasing need for more food to support distribution across programs.

The Food and Farm Hub currently supports Comfort Food Community’s Fresh Food Collective and Supplemental Student Nutrition programs. Funding from The Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust significantly impacts CFC’s ability to construct and equip the Food and Farm Hub to meet both current and future needs of their program operations. The upgraded facility will allow CFC to meet the increasing need for receiving, washing, packing, and storing of fresh produce procured throughout the region. CFC’s program, Fresh Food Collective, works with over 20 local farms to recover and/or purchase fresh food which supports distribution to libraries, senior centers, food pantries, and service organizations across Washington, Warren, and Saratoga counties.

The Food and Farm Hub will also allow CFC to maintain and improve their year-round operation of weekend food delivery to students at Greenwich Central School in addition to the operation of the new Farm to School program in partnership with five local school districts and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Comfort Food Community would like to thank The Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust for this outstanding award. The Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust was established to benefit nonprofit scientific, medical, educational, cultural, religious, and charitable organizations by funding projects and programs in memory of the Trust’s founder, Alfred Z. Solomon.
